SHEIN, the Chinese-founded fast-fashion retailer once valued at $100 billion, is looking to file with U.K. regulators to list an initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange. Six months ago, Shein filed paperwork with the U.S. SEC to go public in New York.     Modern American capitalism makes rich corporate titans massively richer but leaves the rest of us behind. The economically irrational but psychologically rational objective of preserving their elitist club is a plausible reason for this choice. Another possibility is that these powerful titans are missing the fact that the exclusive system they preserve has been extremely costly not just for America but for them personally.     Ghost jobs and spam jobs—everything from jobs that don't actually exist to jobs that remain open for indeterminate periods of time—are not a new phenomenon, but there’s evidence that they are on the rise. A 2022 surveyrevealed that68 percent of employershad listings that were active for more than 30 days, and 10 percent of those listings were up for six months or more, with 20 percent of managers not planning to fill those positions until the next year.
